He was predeceased by: his parents, Earl William Dent and Effie Hutson Dent; his significant other Betty; and his siblings, Romana, William "Bill", Eugene and Doris.
He is survived by: his children, Theresa Blatt (Patrick), John M. Dent, Jr. and Steve Dent; his grandchildren, Jeremy Davis, Justin Davis (Janet), Chelsea Hein, Ryan Dent, Jessica Yarborough, Corey Dent and Nicole Dent; and his great grandchildren, Sydney, Blakely, Tristan, Bentley and Talon.
Visitation was held on Saturday, January 11th 2025 from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM at the Eau Claire Baptist Church (4427 N Main St, Columbia, SC 29203). A funeral service was held on Saturday, January 11th 2025 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the same location. The military honors was held on Saturday, January 11th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Bush River Memorial Gardens (5400 Bush River Rd, Columbia, SC 29212). A burial was held on Saturday, January 11th 2025 at the same location.
