She was predeceased by: her parents, Jane Calvert McDowell Hopkins and Theodore Jervey Hopkins, MD of Columbia; her former husband Bennett Lyon Helms; and her close friend Charles Blalock Smith. She is survived by: her brother Ted Hopkins (Katherine May) of Columbia; her children, Calvert Helms (Tom Pene) of Montone and James Helms (Sharon Ray) of Hopkins, SC.; and her grandchildren, Megan Wellborn (Austin), Hunter Helms, Nikki Collins (Will) and Robert Wright (Kelli). She is also survived by eight great-grandchildren.
