He is survived by: his wife Betty Raiford Rollins Neal; his brother Albert Aiken Neal (Virginia M.); his children, James Peter Neal, III and Monica Roslyn Neal; and his nieces, Erica Neal Lowman (Hal), Aleta Neal McCollum (Roderick) and Pamela Jones Butler (Geonard).
