James Clayton Mitchell II Obituary
With heavy hearts, we announce the death of James Clayton Mitchell II of Columbia, South Carolina, born in Spartanburg, South Carolina, who passed away on March 19, 2025 at the age of 75. He was predeceased by: his parents, Nell Mitchell (Benston) and William Morris Mitchell; his sister Jeanie M. Coleman; and his brother-in-law James R. Coleman. He is survived by: his wife Kathleen "Kathi" Danielson Mitchell; his children, James Clayton Mitchell III (Maggie), Amanda Mitchell Ely (Penn), Alexander Morris Mitchell (December) and Travis Cruise Mitchell; his grandchildren, Emery, Frances and James Mitchell, IV; his children, Owen, Samuel, Adam, William Ely, Tatianna Wright and Ewa Mitchell; and his brother William Morris Mitchell, Jr. (Kristen). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews, as well as lifelong friends.
A funeral service was held on Wednesday, March 26th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Dunbar Funeral Home (Devine) (3926 Devine St, Columbia, SC 29205).
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the University of South Carolina Lettermen's Association, 1304 Heyward Street, Columbia SC 29208 in Jim's memory.
