George Edward Johnson Sr. Obituary
With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of George Edward Johnson Sr. (Columbia, South Carolina), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on December 14, 2024 at the age of 95. He was predeceased by: his parents, Carrie Skirty Johnson and William "Bill" Osceola Johnson; his siblings, James Howard Johnson, William "Billy" Johnson, Calvin Johnson and Anna Ruth Speed; and his children, George E. Johnson, Jr. and Mary Margaret Winston.
He is survived by: his wife Mary Kyle Johnson; his children, Rene Simon, Helena Johnson, Sandra Johnson and Ronald Johnson (Nadine); his grandchildren, Nicole Rankin (Al), Ashley Monroe (Landon), Mary Elizabeth Johnson, Rachel Winston McInnis (Will), Ernest Miles Simon and Edward "Mac" Johnson; his great grandchildren, Xavier Comer, Theophilus Davis, III, Alana Davis, Brooklyn Rankin and London Monroe; and his brothers, Reverend Robert Johnson (Elaine) and Rudolph Johnson. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and cherished friends.
Viewing was held on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Palmer Memorial Chapel - Columbia (1200 Fontaine Pl, Columbia, SC 29223). A celebration of life was held on Thursday, December 19th 2024 from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at the Hope Baptist Church (2117 Clemson Rd, Columbia, SC 29229). A burial will be held on Monday, December 23rd 2024 from 2:00 PM to 2:30 PM at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery (4170 Percival Rd, Columbia, SC 29229-8307).
