He was predeceased by: his parents, Ernest P. Chappell and Selma Hughes Chappell; and his siblings, Mildred Bishop, Nell Richardson, Ruth Hughes and Ernest Chappell.
He is survived by: his wife Patricia Bryant Chappell; his children, Sharon Chappell McCarter (Russell) and Terry Chappell (Rebecca) of Clover, SC; and his grandchildren, Micah Chappell (Theresa), Nathan McCarter (Katrina) and Joshua McCarter (Katherine). He is also survived by seven great grandchildren.
