He was predeceased by: his parents, Rufus E. Mills and Jessie Mills-Satterfield; and his sister Barbara Barnes. He is survived by: his wife Marilyn; his children, Jeff Mills (Melissa) and Katie Mills; his siblings, Carroll Johnson (Lanier), Sandra Foster and Joe Hairston (Cathy); and his grandchildren, Avery and Jace. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested donations to the Wounded Warrier Project or the St. Joseph's Indian School.
