He was predeceased by: his parents, Daniel M. Reed, Sr. and Sara C. Reed of Clemson, SC.. He is survived by: his wife Joan W. Reed; his children, Danny Reed (Alison Moore) of Asheville, NC, Dixie Reed (Chris Beyer) of Durango, CO, Sara Jane Klingaman (Greg) of Amsterdam, Netherlands, Carey McKinley (Mark Gross) of Boston, MA and Laura Spriggs (Paul) of Decatur, GA.; his grandchildren, Liam Reed, Nora, Reed Beyer, Lily, Anna, William Klingaman, Ellie and Nick Spriggs; his sister Dixie G. Goswami (Bhuvenesh); his nieces and nephews, Jim Gooch, Tom Platt (Charlotte) of Clemson, SC, Sara June Goldstein (Francis) of Columbia, SC and Meri Goswami of Clemson; and his former wife Sally Martin.

His courage, optimism, and compassion in the time of the pandemic are an inspiration to family, friends, and those who cared for him.
