He is survived by: his wife Janet Kaye Greene Bates; his children, Jeffery, Jenny Bates, Jennifer, Carl Boyd, Kerry Bates, Kelly, J. Baisch, Chad Bates and Amy Bates; his brother Gary Bates; and his nieces and nephews, Dylan Bates, Alex Swearingen, Kaylie Otero, Kinsley Boyd, Ashlynn Johann, Brianna Bates, Bryce Holseberg, Makenna Holseberg, Gracelynn Bates and Emariee Ennis.
