It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rom Alexander Shumate of Chesterfield, South Carolina, who passed away on March 20, 2025, at the age of 81, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Ecko Geno and Grace Brown Shumate; his wife Barbara; and his sister Joyce Adams. He is survived by: his daughters, Terri Absher (Michael) of Roaring River, NC, Michelle Shumate of Chesterfield, SC and Heather Davis (Stuart) of Conway, SC.; his grandchildren, Chad, April Absher, Elisha Moody (Alex), Alex Hutcherson (Tory), Brady Hutcherson, Jaymee Hutcherson, Kaycee Hutcherson, David Martin, Kathryn Martin and Ellis Davis; his great grandchildren, Hunter, Chloe, Evie, Waylon, Cash of Xander, JC and Alexia; and his siblings, Robert, Ralph Shumate and Betty Sink of North Carolina. He is also survived by his daughters, sons-in-law, grandchildren, great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, March 29th 2025 at 2:00 PM at the Chapel of Miller-Rivers-Caulder Funeral Home (318 E Main St, Chesterfield, SC 29709). A reception was held on Saturday, March 29th 2025 at 3:00 PM at the same location.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to your local homeless shelter, AA Chapter, or cancer research organization of your choice.
