He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Roger Acra Newsom and Lula Belle McKinnon; his former wife Martha Elizabeth Young of Mayesville; his daughter Shannon Elizabeth (Al) of Bluffton, SC; his former wife Barbara Epstein of Cheraw; his sons, Jacob Andrew Newsom and William Alexander Newsom; his wife Nancy S. Newsom of Cheraw; his children, Dr. Shaw Newsom (Carol) of Cheraw, Patricia S. Newsom of Beaufort, SC, Drew Newsom (Daniel) of Saratoga, CA and Dr. Alex Newsom (Heather) of Southport, NC.; and his stepdaughter Beth B. Oneal (Jimmy). He was also cherished by six grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three step-great grandchildren and numerous cousins.
