He is survived by: his brother Christian H. L. Redell, Jr. (Maria); his children, John Byrd Carter, Jr. (Susan) and Janet Carter Cooper (Ronnie); and his grandchildren, Kate Evans (Sandy), Brooke Wood (Daniel), Bryan Cooper (Carter), Elizabeth Kelly (Harrison) and Jarrett Cooper (Jack).
