He was predeceased by: his parents, George Dewey Stanyard, Sr. and Hermine E. Payne Stanyard; and his sister Geormine D. Stanyard-Crawford. He is survived by: his aunts and uncles, Mary Ashe Brown, Glenemae Ashe Johnson, Barbara Payne, Willie Dell Taylor (Henry), Eunice Washington, Jenny Lou Washington, Rose Ashe Whitney, John Nathaniel Ashe, Morris D. Ashe (Linda), Thomas F. Ashe and Cyrus Carl Washington (Demetra); and his brother-in-law Alonzo Crawford. He is also survived by niece; a host of cousins; godchildren; god sisters and god brother; fraternity brothers; and many friends.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 30th 2025 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Smith-McNeal Funeral Home (2119 Dorchester Rd, North Charleston, SC 29405). A celebration of life will be held on Thursday, May 1st 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Morris Street Baptist Church (25 Morris St, Charleston, SC 29403). A memorial service will be held on Friday, May 16th 2025 at 11:00 AM at the Dunbarton Hall - Howard University (2900 Vann Ness St. NW, Washington, DC 20008).
