He was predeceased by: his parents, Clifton Lincoln Diffenderfer and Evelyn Greene Diffenderfer; his children, Lynda D. Wingate and James Diedrick Wohltman, III; and his sisters, Waldeena Steedley, Louise Hensley and Penny Hanes.
He is survived by: his wife Claire; his children, Elisabeth S. Diffenderfer and Eric Sutton Wohltman; and his grandchildren, Andrew J. Wohltman and Kathryn Claire Sutton Diffenderfer. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, October 30th 2024 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel (232 Calhoun St, Charleston, SC 29401). A masonic service was held on Wednesday, October 30th 2024 at 7:00 PM at the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Downtown Chapel (232 Calhoun St, Charleston, SC 29401). A funeral service was held on Thursday, October 31st 2024 at 11:00 AM at the Martin Luther Lutheran Church (1605 Harbor View Rd, Charleston, SC 29412). A burial was held on Thursday, October 31st 2024 at the Holy Cross Cemetery (604 Fort Johnson Rd, Charleston, SC 29412).
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Martin Luther Lutheran Church.
