We are sad to announce that on January 20, 2025, at the age of 88, Ann Johnston of Charleston, South Carolina passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.
She was predeceased by: her parents, Paul Baylis Byrum and Lilla Miller Bryum; her former husband Thomas Manly Whitener; her son Thomas Manly Whitener III; and her brother Joseph Newton Byrum.
She is survived by: her daughter Croft Whitener Lane (Hugh); her brother Paul Byrum; her husband Coy Johnston; her grandchildren, Lilla L. Clark (Patrick), Sophie L. Martin (Jarrett), Hugh C. Lane III (Carol), Roddey D. Whitener (Kaijie) and Wilson Stone Whitener; and her great grandchildren, Charlotte Martin, Russell Martin, Julian Clark, Emma Clark, Alice Lane, Haru Whitener and Cirilla Whitener.
Memorials may be made to the Colonial Dames of South Carolina, Kanuga Conference Center, Faith Memorial Chapel (Cedar Mountain, NC), University of the South, Sewanee, Wofford College, Hammond School (Columbia), and Trinity Episcopal School (Charlotte).
