He is survived by: his wife Jonna Gates; his sons, Hugh Gates (Teresa Gates) of Lexington, SC and J. Bryan Gates (Patricia Gates) of Lexington, SC; his grandchildren, Hubie, Abigail, Ava, Bronson, Brantley and Madilyn; his sister Jane Pelfrey; his niece Rebecca Hornback (Pelfrey); and his great-niece Willow.
