He was predeceased by: his parents, Coreba Elizabeth Shell (Woolen) and Samuel Patrick Shell; his spouse Shirley Ann Shell (Pierce); his grandson Denis Cotton; and his son-in-law Tony Rose.
He is survived by: his daughters, Doyla Longshore (Ralph) of Lyman, SC, Susan Rose of Greenwood, SC and Anita Haney (Michael) of Orlando, FL; his brothers, Cawood Shell of Piedmont, SC and Patrick Shell of Inman, SC; and his grandchildren, Michael Cotton (Shauna), Laura Wood (Nathan), Randy Cotton (Christina), Kelly Clark Cisewski (Bryan), Andrew Clark (Miranda), Ryan Haney (Stephanie) and Ashley Finno. He is also survived by 18 great grandchildren.
