He was predeceased by: his parents, James Luther and Wava Corbett Hoopengardner; his daughter Teresa H. Putnam; and his siblings, Patricia Hawvermale and Gary Hoopengardner.

He is survived by: his spouse Jean Tolbert Hoopengardner; his daughters, Christine Y. Hoopengardner and Wanda H. Hein (Jeff); his grandchildren, Justin R. Putnam (Cydney), Lane Hein and Cade Hein; his great grandchild Miller Jo Putnam; and his siblings, Lois Joy, Shirley Garner (Ted), David Hoopengardner (Kathy) and Jimmy Hoopengardner.

Memorials may be made to Legacy of Faith at Hermitage Baptist Church, 814 Jefferson Davis Highway, Camden, SC 29020.
