He is survived by: his wife Ann Baxley Carpenter; his children, Mary Kathryn Carpenter (Jonathan David Newman), Rowan Christopher Newman and Ann Elizabeth Carpenter; and his brother Robert Lemont Carpenter (Susan Manley Carpenter).
