He was predeceased by: his parents, John C. Kirkland, and Cora Kirkland, Sr.; and his siblings, Almina Alexander, John C Kirkland Jr. and Lewis Kirkland.
He is survived by: his sons, Kelly Reid of New Zealand and Jemal Kirkland of Philadelphia, PA; his siblings, Rosa Mae Lassiter of Philadelphia, PA, Charles Kirkland of Philadelphia, PA and Carolyn of Englewood, NJ; and his adoptive son Leroy Robinson. He is also survived by grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends.
