He was predeceased by: his parents, Jonah Burgess and Marie Wheeler Burgess; his son Donnie Burgess, Jr.; his son-in-law Junior "Zallar" Newby; his grandson-in-law Jorge Martinez; and his siblings, Leroy Burgess, Joshua Burgess, John Russell Burgess, Jimmie Lee Burgess, Liza Jane Burgess and Leola Burgess.
He is survived by: his sister Lane; his children, Velma Burgess of Florence, SC, Bessie Anthony (Antonio) of Lake City, SC and Kent Grayson (Robin) of Kingstree, SC; his grandchildren, LaMel Burgess (Tameika) of Concord, NC, Michaelous Lawrence of Charlotte, NC, DeConda Martinez, Adonnis Peterson, DeAna Burgess, Conzallar Newby, Tantalis Newby and Curtxavier Fryson; his great grandchildren, Quanisha (Quincy), KeAndre, Shiandi (Chris), Logen, Trinity, IshMel, Mykerah, Odalis, Jorgie, Tayler, Iris, Miracle, Michaelous Jr., Isabella, Nazir, Nyasia, Khalil and Parker Stewart; his great great grandchildren, Jayden, Karter and Kalani; his goddaughter Peggy Haygood (Steve) of Lake City, SC; his siblings, BJ Burgess (Margaret) of Arlington, VA, Wearly Burgess (Pearlie) of Lake City, SC, Geneva Burgess of Lake City, SC, MaryAnn Burgess of Lake City, SC, Diane Burgess of Lake City, SC and Wiloria Trutmen of Lakeland, FL; and his sisters-in-law, Louise B. Weaver, Queen Shaw, Ann S, Rose, Madeline Grayson and Johnnie Mae Bougars. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
