He was predeceased by: his parents, Alva Forrest Cox and Ollie Emma Boyles; and his wife Lois Kaye Syme Cox. He is survived by: his children, Max Cox Jr. (Deanna), Frank Cox (Thana), Shawn Cox and Michelle Harper (David); and his grandchildren, Joshua Cox (Sarah), Kyle Cox, Brandon Harper (Kat), Jonathon Harper (Aimee), Christopher Harper, Kirstin Boyd (David), Nickie Tovar (Josh), Calla Gravley (Justis) and Colt Cox (Emily). He is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Thiel-Mayer Animal Shelter, 128 Black River Rd, Camden, SC 29020. (Grandpa loved his dogs.).
