He was predeceased by: his parents, John William Black Sr. and Beatrice Ocker; and his half-brother Ronald Reed. He is survived by: his wife Marianne Black; his son John William Black III; his stepdaughters, Susan Pigat and Michelle Mason (Craig); his grandchildren, Timothy Mason, Robbie Pigat, Tyler Mason and Samantha Mason; and his sister Carolyn Sites.
