He was predeceased by: his parents, Alexander Whan and Hazel Whan (Kahrs); and his siblings, Robert Whan and Elizabeth Adams (Whan). He is survived by: his wife Joan Whan (Sullivan) of Bluffton; his daughter Katherine Smith (Whan); his son-in-law Bradley Smith; his granddaughter Merritt Smith of Decatur; and his brother Geoffrey Whan of Woodbury, Conn.. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law and nieces and nephews.
A celebration of Alex's life will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, March 7, 2022 at the Church of the Cross Chapel in Bluffton, and in lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to The Nature Conservancy.
