He was predeceased by: his parents, Gilmore S. Owens, Sr. and Dora Mae Wilson Owens; and his siblings, Ernestine "Sis" Harriott, Oscar H. Owens, Franklin D. Owens, Bobby Wilson Owens and Gilmore S. Owens, Jr..
He is survived by: his son Joe Barrett Owens, Jr. of Barnwell; his brother Gene S Owens (Betty) of Blackville; his sister-in-law Janice Owens of Blackville; his niece Melody O. Bonnette (Eddie) of Blackville; and his nephew Gene S. Owens, Jr. (Fran) of Aiken. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
