He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Peterson and Nuna Peterson; his former wife Evelyn Wyatt Peterson; his grandson Adam Jarrett Peterson Jr.; and his siblings, Harvey, David, Floyd Peterson, Louise Moore, Irene Giles, Thelma Neeling and Nellie Wylie.
He is survived by: his wife Valerie Eaker Peterson; his children, Wayne Earl Peterson of Gastonia, Jarrett Peterson of Blacksburg, Doug Eaker of Blacksburg, Christine P. Alexander of Smyrna and Joy Painter of Blacksburg; and his sisters, Shirley Rudasill of Gastonia and Hazel Hollins of Blacksburg. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
