He was predeceased by: his parents, Dexter Benton and Stella Benton; and his siblings, Dexter Benton (Dixie), Ken Walker and Frances McAbee.
He is survived by: his wife Sylvia Conner Benton; his children, Sylvia Charlene Benton Knight of Gaffney, Karl Gene Benton of Spartanburg and Charles Daniel Benton; and his sisters, Vera Cain (Larry) of Grover and Era Greene of Grover. He is also survived by seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
