He was predeceased by: his sister Laura Gwendolyn Boyd. He is survived by: his wife Martha B. Fender of Beaufort, SC; his children, Sherwood "Woody" N. Fender, Jr., Addison D. Fender, Kimberly B. Massey and Meagan W. Fender; and his siblings, John David Boyles and Phoebie Ferguson.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the Child Abuse Prevention Association, PO Box 531, Beaufort, SC 29901.
