He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Col. John M. Tatum Jr. and Mary Risher Tatum of Bamberg, SC.; his wife Mary; his children, John May Tatum IV (Jenny-Gray) and Christine Dargan Tatum; his siblings, Sara Jane Pottenger (Dave), Susan Connor Tatum and James Risher Tatum (Holly); his grandchildren, John Craig and May Weaver Tatum; and his siblings-in-law, Eddie Laney (Josephine), Roy Laney (Caroline), Lib Laney Peebles (Billy) and Georgia Studnicka (Ben). He was also cherished by numerous cousins and friends.
A funeral service was held on Saturday, February 8th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the Beaufort First Presbyterian Church (410 Church St, Beaufort, SC 29902).
