He was predeceased by: his parents, James Allen and Vera Harris Petersen; his brothers, Kenny Petersen of Georgia and Jimmy Petersen of Arizona; and his nephew Bret Petersen.
He is survived by: his son Gary A Petersen, Jr. (Christine Amsler Petersen); his granddaughter Kaitlin Petersen; his sister Raquel Tribbey (Earl) of Peoria, Arizona; his nieces and nephews, Paige Sprietsma (Charlie), Jennifer Talbert (Brad), Jacob Tribbey, Zach Tribbey, Justin Tribbey, Val Petersen, Jeff Petersen and Martin Petersen; and his caregivers, Rita Maxwell, AmVets Post, Chaplin, Charles Blankin (Chuck), Bob Parks and Henry Stuhr.
