Cameron Dexter Thomas Jr. Obituary
Cameron Dexter Thomas, Jr., 81, of Beaufort, husband of Sylvia Russ Thomas, died Friday, January 22, 2021 at his residence.
Graveside services will be held Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at 11AM at Beaufort Memorial Gardens.
Dexter was born on March 19, 1939 at the iconic Frogmore Store on St. Helena Island, owned at the time by his family.
He was the son of the late Cameron Dexter Thomas, Sr. and Florrie Richardson Thomas.
He owned and operated Palmetto Finance Co. for many years. His love of God and acceptance of Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior was evident in the twinkling of his blue eyes as he greeted family and friends with his incredible sense of humor and boisterous laugh.
He and his wife Sylvia were lifelong members of St. Helena Baptist Church where he faithfully served as a deacon for over five decades.
Surviving in addition to his wife, Sylvia are one son, Cameron “Rick” Thomas, III (Sherry) ; and one daughter, Cindy Smith (Vince); one brother, Donnie Thomas of Beaufort and one sister, Frances Webb of Charleston; six grandchildren and one great grandchild and one soon to be born great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother and three sisters.
