She was predeceased by: her parents, Eddie Steele and Ethel Storey Steele; her husband Peter Adkins Matthews; and her granddaughter Crystal Lea Hallman. She is survived by: her children, Judy Price (Rocky), Truett Matthews (Patricia) and Lora Matthews; and her grandchildren, Bradley Smith (Lynn), Chris Smith (Joy), Kevin Smith, Kimberly Matthews, Hope Wheeler (Glenn), Nick Matthews (Cindy) and Melanie Tuttle. She is also survived by 17 children and is survived by two brothers and one sister.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Sardis Baptist Church.
