He was predeceased by: his mother Hessie Carter Long; his wife Debra Smith Long; and his siblings, Clyde, Noah Long and Hattie Mae Carter.
He is survived by: his children, Heyward Leon Long, Jr. (Hyon) of Batesburg-Leesville, Marcus Long of Batesburg-Leesville and Tyna Long of Jacksonville, Florida; his siblings, Rosa Bell Nicholas (Melvin) of Batesburg-Leesville, Mae Bell Nicholas (Gene) of Batesburg-Leesville, Linda Tolen of Batesburg-Leesville, Gayla Bouknight of Hopkins, Ricky Long of Batesburg-Leesville and Charles Long (Annette) of Batesburg-Leesville; and his friend Rachel Smith. He is also survived by five grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.
