He was predeceased by: his parents, Garner Matthews, Sr. and Lois Crouch Matthews; his wife Rebecca Matthews; his daughters, Gina Smith and Cinda Leigh Matthews; and his granddaughter Emily Smith.
He is survived by: his stepsons, Steven Payne (Margaret) and Eddie Payne (Mindy Ham); his siblings, Mary Lynn Trotter (Ansel), Glenda Rivers (Mike) and Wyman Matthews (Bennie); his grandchildren, Justin Smith (Cindi Laminack), Haley Robinson (Scott), Erin Norton (Jack), Christian Stoddard, Shannon Payne and Harmon Payne; and his great grandchildren, Garrett, Abilene Robinson, Leila Kay and Garner Norton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Compassionate Care Hospice.
