He was predeceased by: his parents, J. V. Grubbs Sr. and Kathryn L. Grubbs; and his siblings, J. V. Grubbs Jr., Jimmy Grubbs and Frankie Nichols.
He is survived by: his wife Bonnie Williams Grubbs of Appling Ga; his daughters, Gwen Alewine (Sam) of Chapin, S. C. and Missy Cato (Mark) of Barnwell; and his grandchildren, Christopher Still (Savannah), Joseph Still (Jessica), Michelle Black (Joey), Tyler Cato, Tanner Cato, Clair Alewine Harmon (Benji) and Kim Alewine Carter (Jonathon).
