He is survived by: his children, Dawn Balding Pate (Fen) and Robert Mathews Balding, Jr. (Matt); his stepson Phillip Vanderbilt Brady; his grandchildren, Allston Pate Shore (Royall), Emerson Fennell Pate, Margaret Pringle Balding and Sara Mathews Balding; his great grandchild Robert Royall Shore; and his significant other Sharon McCullough.
