Nina Mabel Rogerson McLaughlin, 98, of Andrews, SC, passed away at her home in Andrews surrounded by family.
Born on February 27, 1926, in Andrews, SC, she was the only child of Samuel M. Rogerson and Rena Porter Rogerson.
Nina attended Winthrop University where she graduated with a double major in English and Music . She attended USC and graduated with a Masters degree in Education. After graduating from college, she taught school in Allendale and Laurinburg, NC, where she met her husband Daniel Frederick “Fred” McLaughlin. They married on April 11, 1952. Together they had three children. They returned to Andrews, SC in 1960 so she could care for her parents. When her parents passed away, she returned to teaching in 1969. Nina taught the first grade at Andrews Elementary School for 22 years until her retirement.
Nina loved Pawley's Island. She enjoyed visiting her uncle’s beach house Dr. Johnny Porter in Pawleys Island. She would study her Sunday School lesson on the beach with her family.
Nina was a member of Bethel Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir, and played the piano.
Nina is survived by three children; Jan M. Shelton (Tony), Danny McLaughlin (Wendy), Alan McLaughlin (Rhonda), grandchildren; Chad Shelton (Lauren), Mandi Selba, and Adam Phillips, great-grandchildren; Crew Shelton, Mailie Shelton, Kaitlyn Wilson (Casey), Jay Poston, John Phillips, great-great-grandchild; Wade Wilson, several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Bethel Church of Andrews 5140 Kent Road, Andrews, SC with Pastor Steve Gardner officiating. The family will receive visitors one hour before the service in the fellowship hall.
Nina's family would like to extend a special thank you to the doctors and caregivers of Tidelands Community Hospice and Midge Spalding who was her caregiver for many years.
