He was predeceased by: his parents, Marvin Durant Smith and Inez Cox Smith; his brother Donald; his brother-in-law William "Bill" Haselden; and his extended family Donna Cox Haselden.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Haselden Smith; his children, Scott Smith and Becky Smith Brennaman (Bob); his grandchildren, Grace Nason, Noah Brennaman and Zach Brennaman; his sister Linda Coker (Harry, family: Gabe Coker); his nephew Justin Coker (Mary Ann); his sister-in-law Mildred Smith (family: Don Jr. Smith, Miranda Thompson); his extended family Meri Wills (Ken); and his daughter Holly (Blake Haselden). He is also survived by her family.

Memorials may be made to the Andrews Presbyterian Church.
