She was predeceased by: her husband Roderick Dowd Howell, Sr.; her parents, Robert Glenn Smith and Ora Christine Gibson Smith; her son Roderick D. "Rick" Howell, II; and her brothers, Duncan Stewart Smith and Robert Kenneth Smith.
She is survived by: her children, Richard Clark Howell of Georgetown, Sheila Anne Pender (Mark) of Georgetown and Anna Janette Hyrowski (Michael) of Georgetown; her stepdaughter Deborah Gaye Howell of Laurinburg; her daughter-in-law Leslie Howell of Socatee; her siblings, James Howard Smith of Irmo, SC, William "Bill" Blue Smith of Maxton, NC, Mary Louise Smith Sutherland of Maxton, NC and Betty Smith Hammonds of Hampstead, NC; and her grandchildren, Jesse Sawyer, Caroline Collins (Austin), Ryan Howell, Christy Howell, Larkyn Hyrowski, Cannon Howell, Gibson Howell, Ashley Pender, Carrie Mae Hyrowski and Olivia Howell.
