He was predeceased by: his parents, Doil Bates and Marjorie Spratlin Bates. He is survived by: his wife Edith Ann Bates; and his sons, Robin Bates of Atlanta, Ricky Bates (Lydia) of Powdersville, Jimmy Evans (Kye Suk) of Anderson and Steve Evans (Kim) of Iva. He is also survived by his 10 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, January 7th 2025 from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM at the Sullivan-King Mortuary Chapel (3205 N Hwy 81, Anderson, SC 29621). A funeral service was held on Tuesday, January 7th 2025 at 1:30 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Tuesday, January 7th 2025 at the Flat Rock Cemetery (909 Flat Rock Rd, Anderson, SC 29624).
