He was predeceased by: his parents, T. J. Scott and Mamie Crosby Gaines; his grandmother Hattie Crosby; and his siblings, Willie Gaines, Mary Ann Gaines and Lisa Gaines Brown.

He is survived by: his siblings, Mamie Lee Blanding (Marty), Henry Gaines (Niecey), Grady Gaines (Kerry-Ann) and James Gaines (Tonya). He is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins.
