He was predeceased by: his parents, William Oscar Gilliland and Rossey Gibson; his wife Minnie Pearl Gilliland; his son Leroy Alan Gilliland; and his grandson Lucas Cash.

He is survived by: his son Charlton Sherman Gilliland; his stepdaughter Cindy Goff; and his brother Richard Gilliland. He is also survived by ten grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
