He was predeceased by: his parents, John Fleetwood Speer, Sr. and Una Mae Burriss Speer; and his sister Joan S. Shillinglaw. He is survived by: his wife Nancy Prevost Speer; his sons, John Prevost Speer (Tammy), Charles Keith Speer (Sarah) and Richard Williamson Speer (Kimberly); and his grandchildren, Matthew, Katherine, Jackson, Graham and Cooper.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 1404 North Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
