He is survived by: his wife Lorean Smith Mayes; his children, Robert Smith (Beverly) of Seneca, SC, Ricky Goodine of Seneca, SC, Wesley Goodine of Seneca, SC, Clarence Mayes Jr. (April) of Seneca, SC, James Mayes (Tasha) of Seneca, SC, Deborah Jones, Greta Mayes of Seneca, SC, Tammy Wilks of Pendleton, SC, Rosemary Smith (Gregory) and Courtney Mayes; his brother Willie Cecil "Buddy" Mayes of Seneca, SC; and his nephew Ralph Howard Goodine of Seneca, SC. He is also survived by 26 grandchildren and a number of great-grandchildren.
