He was predeceased by: his parents, Edward E. Popiel and Mary Maher Popiel; his daughter Sandra; his sister Jeannette Able; and his grandson Raymond Sakowski.

He is survived by: his wife Jane Dorger Popiel; his children, Marianne Sakowski (Ray) of Bartow, FL, Stephen Popiel, Michelle Barows (Terry) of Jasper, GA, Lisa Kuntzman (John) of Palm Springs, FL and Scott Hosking (Angela) of Charlotte, NC; and his grandchildren, Crissy Espy (Jon), Sean Barows (Chynna), Ryan Barows (Emily), Emily Bunn (Chris) and Madeline Hosking.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Aiken County Historical Museum (achmfriends.org).
