He was predeceased by: his parents, Herbert Spann and Ella Mae Spann; his daughter Janie Fugi Spann Thomas; his son-in-law Roderick Thomas; his brother-in-law Paul Johnson; his parents-in-law, Myra Williams and Cal Williams; and his aunt Earnestine Thomas.
He is survived by: his wife Carolyn Spann; his children, Ammie Spann (Ernest), Jenny Spann (Melvin), James Paul Spann and Jaden Spann; his siblings, Lula Bell Williams, Sylvia Spann, Janice Spann, Dianne Johnson, Betty Wade (Ricky), Sonny of Washington, Norris Spann, Eugene Spann (Teresa), Herbert Spann (Elizabeth), Lafayette Spann and Jasper Byrd (Georgia); and his siblings-in-law, Betty Stallings, Mary Lanham, Peggy Patterson (Alvin), Myra Ahmed (Kamal), Linda Johnson (Michael), Dorothy Williams, Barbara Perry (Jimmy), Nancy Smith (Phil), William Minor (Janie Lou) and Cal Williams. He is also survived by grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and devoted friends.
