He was predeceased by: his father James Elbert Butler; and his grandparents, John Elbert, Myrtle Tarlton Butler, William Nathan Funderburk and Elizabeth Funderburk Varnadore.
He is survived by: his mother Patricia Funderburk Butler; his wife Kimberly Smoak Butler; his daughters, Elizabeth Butler VonCannon (Blake), Hannah Butler Templin (Connor) and Rebecca Haley Butler; and his brothers, John Matthew Butler (Sherri) and Nathan Russell Butler (Kathy). He is also survived by eight nieces and nephews.
