She was predeceased by: her father Richard Steele; and her brother Tommy Steele. She is survived by: her husband Johnny Brooks; her mother Willie Mae Steele; her sons, Jeremy Brooks (Deana) and James "Eric" Brooks; her grandchildren, Tricia Brooks Walro (Zach), Joseph, Emily and Madalyn; her great grandchild Jonathan Walro; and her siblings, Wayne Steele, Gene Steele, Carl Steele, Bruce Steele and Darlene Coursey.
