He was predeceased by: his parents, Robert S. Merchant and Glenora Pike Merchant; his son Andrew Merchant; and his brothers, David and Bradley Merchant.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Hawkins Merchant; his son Daniel; his daughter-in-law Melissa Merchant of Westerly, RI; his grandchildren, Jack and Isla; his sisters, Carol Woodcock (Tim Tuttle) of Rensselaer Falls, NY and Nancy DePasquale (Dave) of Hamburg, NY; his mother-in-law Frances Hawkins of Hamburg, NY; and his sisters-in-law, Debbie Davis (Jim) of Danbury, CT and Linda Cornwall of Rochester, NY. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
