He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence G. Sweeney and Edith Sweeney (Aldrich). He is survived by: his son Lawrence G. Sweeney of Blairsville, GA; his stepchildren, Keri A. Thompson of Warwick and Michael D. McDermott of Warwick; and his brother Daniel T. Sweeney of Warwick. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a celebration of his life will be held at a future date.
